Llyn starts at Pwllheli and reaches out to Bardsey Island, forming an "Area of Outstanding Natural Beauty" offering many areas protected by the National Trust as Wales' Heritage Coastline. Slightly south of the village of Abersoch near the town of Pwllheli, Bwlch Tocyn is easily reached from the main routes into North Wales.
